Karim Benzema Agrees to Contract with Saudi Arabian Club Al Ittihad

Karim Benzema brought an end to his career at Real Madrid in early June 2023. The French striker concluded his 14-year tenure with Los Blancos in a fitting manner, scoring a goal in a 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish League on Sunday (June 4).

According to 90min, Benzema will take his talents to Saudi Arabia. He has agreed to a three-year contract with Al Ittihad.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid will hold a farewell event for Benzema on Tuesday, June 6. Afterward, the 35-year-old player's move to Al Ittihad will be announced.

Benzema will head to the Middle East to compete against his former Real Madrid teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo led his team, Al-Nassr, to finish five points behind the champions Al Ittihad in the race for the Saudi Arabian League title in the 2022/2023 season.

Al Ittihad is currently managed by Nuno Espirito Santo. The former manager of English clubs Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur signed a two-year contract when he joined in the summer of 2022.

Meanwhile, Al Ittihad's attack is led by Abderrazak Hamdallah. The Moroccan national team player finished as the top scorer in the division with 21 goals in 26 matches.

However, Karim Benzema's arrival could pose a threat to Abderrazak. It appears that the former French national team player will replace him in the team.

Karim Benzema's move to the Middle East comes amidst a strong push from Saudi Arabian officials to bring more big names to the region.

90min recently reported that Chelsea player N'Golo Kante is being approached to move to Saudi Arabia when his contract expires in July 2023. Additionally, many other famous players are being targeted for moves there.

Lionel Messi, who has departed Paris Saint-Germain, has received a massive offer from Al-Hilal to become the highest-paid player on the planet.
