Donald Trump has been receiving royalties amounting to $5.75 million in the past 18 months from his book "A MAGA Journey," a coffee table photo book capturing moments from his presidency. Trump used a private family company to publish the book, mostly subsidized by taxpayers, and boosted sales through donor funds.

In a recent financial disclosure, Trump reported royalties related to the publishing deal for "A MAGA Journey," which is the original name for "A MAGA Journey: Our Shared Experience." The book showcases official White House photos of Trump, which are already in the public domain and available for anyone's use, with the former president adding his own commentary.

A spokesperson for the publisher, a company founded by Donald Trump Jr. and former campaign staffer Sergio Gor, claimed that "A MAGA Journey: Our Shared Experience" has sold over 500,000 copies.

However, Forbes could not independently verify this claim, as NPD BookScan, an industry data service, only tracked 10,200 retail sales until January 2023.

It is worth noting that NPD BookScan does not track direct purchases from book websites, which seem to be the main sales channel for "A MAGA Journey: Our Shared Experience." The book was initially priced at $75, with signed copies being sold for $230.

Trump's political operation played its part in boosting sales. In 2022, a joint fundraising committee of the former president and a political action committee paid Winning Team Publishing, which released the book, $231,000. The committee spokesperson did not respond to recent inquiries.

However, in December 2022, a spokesperson confirmed that at least $48,000 of the joint fundraising committee's expenditures were for "A MAGA Journey: Our Shared Experience." The committee still offers copies in exchange for donations of $75 or more.

The $5.75 million payment for "A MAGA Journey: Our Shared Experience" dwarfs other reported royalty payments Trump received in the past 18 months.

"The Art of the Deal," published in 1987, generated between $100,000 and $1 million in income, according to filings that listed Trump's earnings from his old books within a wide range.

Four other books each earned between $5,000 and $15,000, one earned between $2,500 and $5,000, and ten earned less than $200.

Trump's disclosure identified the payment for "A MAGA Journey: Our Shared Experience" as coming from a company called Gold Standard Publishing LLC. "The payment was made from Winning Team Publishing," said a spokesperson for Winning Team. "We have informed those who filed the documents."

Additionally, Trump also revealed that Winning Team Publishing paid his wife Melania $250,000 for licensing fees. The spokesperson stated that the payment was for promoting "A MAGA Journey: Our Shared Experience."

In April, Winning Team Publishing released a follow-up book, "Letters to Trump," priced at $100, with signed copies at $400. The 320-page book features correspondence with Trump over the past 40 years, along with his commentary. Unbeknownst to contributors, it includes letters from Kim Jong Un, Alec Baldwin, and Hillary Clinton.

Sources of Donald Trump's Wealth

According to CBS News, most of Trump's wealth comes from his real estate empire, with Forbes estimating the value of his New York properties at $720 million.

The billionaire also owns golf clubs and resorts worth $730 million, such as Trump National Doral Miami and Mar-a-Lago, both located in Florida.

Other assets and investments amount to $840 million, according to the magazine.

One of these investments is a significant stake in Trump Media & Technology Group, which runs the conservative social network called Truth Social. Last year, Forbes named this shareholding as his "single most valuable asset."
