Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta Awaits Official Offer from Manchester United for Andre Onana

Andre Onana
Manchester United has initiated talks with Inter Milan regarding Andre Onana last week. With the potential departure of David de Gea, the former Cameroon national team goalkeeper appears to be heading to Old Trafford.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Inter Milan's sporting director Piero Ausilio was in England last Monday (June 26, 2023). The person responsible for Inter Milan's transfer activities met with representatives from Manchester United to discuss Onana's transfer.

Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta has confirmed the English club's interest in the 27-year-old player. However, he emphasized that a formal offer must be made soon.

"Manchester United has expressed their interest in Onana, but it has to lead to an offer or not," Marotta told reporters.

"Then, a careful assessment from us and the player will take over."

Andre Onana moved to Inter Milan from Ajax in 2022. He performed brilliantly for the Italian giants in the 2022-2023 season, keeping 19 clean sheets in 41 appearances.

Onana shone as Inter progressed to the Champions League final. The former Cameroon international kept eight clean sheets in 13 appearances in the competition, with Inter facing Manchester City in Istanbul to compete for the trophy.

Although unable to prevent Manchester City from winning 1-0 on that night, Andre Onana's performance has sparked new speculation about his future.

Inter Milan Sets a Price of Rp 985 Billion for Andre Onana

As reported by 90min, Inter Milan is demanding a fee of 60 million euros, approximately Rp 985 billion, to part ways with Andre Onana. Manchester United will soon make a decision regarding the offer for Onana but also need to resolve the future of David de Gea.

De Gea had agreed to a contract extension that would see his wages decrease by almost half, to £200,000 per week. However, Man Utd then withdrew the offer and tried to convince the goalkeeper to accept a larger wage cut.

The latest proposal remains unsigned, and De Gea is now a free agent. De Gea's contract with Manchester United expires on Friday (June 30, 2023) night.

Continuing Efforts to Bring in Andre Onana

If David de Gea can be convinced to stay at Old Trafford, Manchester United can still pursue the transfer of Andre Onana. Manager Erik ten Hag continues to seek competition under the goalposts.
