Marquez Raises Questions about Honda, Why Did Lorenzo and Pedrosa Fail?

Marc Marquez
Six-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez is puzzled as to why talented riders like Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo failed to excel while racing for Repsol Honda.

Marquez has had a number of exceptional teammates since joining Repsol Honda in 2013. Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo, Alex Marquez, Pol Espargaro, and now Joan Mir—all have been unable to meet Honda's expectations.

No rider has been able to claim the MotoGP world championship title apart from Marquez. Pedrosa came close, but The Little Samurai never managed to become a world champion.

In an interview with AS, Marquez admitted his confusion about this situation. The Spanish rider urged Honda to find the answers as to why this has been the case.

"We have seen all the great riders like Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo, my brother Alex Marquez, Pol Espargaro, Joan Mir come here and none of them achieved the expected results with Repsol Honda. That's where [Honda] needs to find out why," Marquez said, as quoted by Crash.

With Marquez's frequent absences due to injuries since the 2020 MotoGP season, the performance of Repsol Honda and the Honda satellite teams has also declined.

Up until the halfway point of the 2023 MotoGP season, Marquez has yet to finish a Grand Prix race. In the three races he has participated in, the 30-year-old rider has failed to complete the race on all three occasions.

"This season, I came to the MotoGP Portugal [opening race] after having one of my best pre-seasons. It was one of the most stable experiences I've ever had in all aspects, and that's when I felt really strong," Marquez expressed.

"I started with great enthusiasm, taking a lot of risks and experiencing numerous crashes. Within just four months, I suffered multiple injuries. I had to stop. Physically and mentally, I needed to rebuild because I was going through one of the worst moments in my career. I'm trying to overcome these injuries," Marquez continued.
